Maitara Island Marine Park is located around Maitara Island which is near Tidore Island, North Maluku province. The location is only about 20 minutes from Tidore Island by speedboat. Maitara Island is a small island between Tidore Island and Ternate Island.
Maitara Island is also an icon for Indonesian 1,000 Rupiah banknotes with the background of Tidore Island. So it is very well known nationally. Almost the entire circumference of this island is dominated by white sandy beach and wonderful underwater world in front it, with varieties of fish and corals that is still well preserved.
Around the island, there is Cape Tongowai which is also the location for the anglers, from morning till night. This cape is a gathering place for various types and species of fish. The curve of the cape makes the fish often gathered day and night.
