Galela is located on the coastal area of Galela bay, extending from Mamuya Village in the south and ending at Jere Village in the far north. The main attraction of this region is Telaga Duma (Lake Duma) - Galela which is the largest lake in Halmahera. Galela also keeps histories and folklores that make your trip decorated with interesting stories. Galela is part of North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province.

Almost the entire region of Galela is hills filled with banana trees and coconut trees which make copra becomes one of the top commodity in Galela. The area is inhabited by Galela tribe which is known as great immigrants. Galela language, which is the local language in this area, is also be used in some other places like Morotai.

2. Telaga Duma (Lake Duma)
Telaga Duma is the biggest lake in Halmahera Island and has an important history for the local community, namely Tanjung (Cape) Van Dijken, formerly called Tanjung (Cape) Duma. 3. Japanese Tunnel during World War II
Here you will find a tunnel which was used for hiding by the Japanese army during World War II in Samuda Village, West Galela Sub-district . The tunnel is 20 meters long and has several rooms that are expected to be meeting rooms. It lies just below the highway so you can feel the vibrations when there are vehicles passing over it. From Tobelo to Samuda Village is about 45 minutes by vehicles. Another kind of tunnel is are also found in Duma Village, Galela.

4. Mamuya Hot Spring

The hot spring is located in Mamuya Village, Galela Sub-district which is a spring that comes from the bowels of Mount Mamuya. Local people believe that the hot water in Mamuya can cure various skin diseases. If you travel from Tobelo, then the distance to get to this location is approximately 15 km. Mamuya Hot Spring is about 500 m from the main road. The hot spring is deserted when you visit in the morning.

5. Telaga (Lake) Makete and Ngidiho
The hallmark of Lake Makete is the lotus plants that thrives along the banks of the lake in Makete Village. While Lake Ngidiho is located in Ngidiho Village which is located on the north of Makete Village. Makete villagers are the migrants from Sangihe-Talaud Islands who have mingled with the natives of Galela. In both this lake you can enjoy the beautiful scenery.

6. Kapaseti
If you love to see historical objects, you have to come to Soakonora Village in West Galela Sub-district. Kapaseti, which is also referred to the locals as Kapasti, is a war bonnet given by the Sultan of Ternate to King Momole. Besides, there are also other war equipment, including long machete (sword), a bottle of oil and roots tied with red cloth and bia (clamshells) which are usually used when going to war.

7. Teluk Somola (Somola Bay)
In Somola Bay, there are some small islands overgrown by mangroves over the rocks and clear blue sea which becomes the sight on Somola Bay. You can boating along the bay while enjoying the beauty of Somola. At a certain time, a variety of marine fish will come in significant amounts and stuck in this bay. This beautiful place can be reached by boating from Pune beach in Galela Sub-district.

8. Sapoli Waterfall
Sapoli Waterfall is located in the woods behind Samuda Village. From Samuda Village you can walk down a garden of the residents to the west, until you cross Ira river. From there, keep going to the west, through grassland and forest before finally arrive at the location. The travel time is approximately 1 hour 20 minutes. Do not visit this place on a rainy day because it will flood from Ira river which cut off the access to the location.

9. Pune Cannons
Pune Cannons are a historical relic of World War II in Pune Village. This place was one of the strongholds of Japanese forces in the Pacific region. In Pune Village, there are two large cannons and a runway. Meanwhile, other relics can be found in Kusu Village, such as four antique cannons, two bunkers, runways, and three ships.

Culinary
Traveling is not complete without culinary tour. Around Lake Galela (Telaga Duma) there are several warung (food stall) especially along the northern lakeside. Some typical foods available are Nasi Galela, Papeda (sago), Ikan Kuah Kuning (yellowed fish soup), Kasbi Rebus (boiled cassava), Ayam Goreng (fried chicken), Nasi Pulut / Lemang and Kolak. The price here is also affordable.

Transportation
If you want to go to Galela by public transportation, you can use mikrolet (microbus) with route Tobelo - Galela, departing from the front of "Toko Tanjung Raya" on Jalan Kemakmuran (Tobelo City). People in Galela usually use ojek (motorcycle taxi) as a short distance transport.
