North Maluku province is a paradise for divers. One of them is Ternate Island which is not only beautiful in nature but also under the sea. If you are diving lovers, Ternate has many beautiful diving spots, which are very close to the city of Ternate so you will not weary for the trip.
Some famous diving spots around Ternate Island: Floridas wall, Kalumata, Kota Baru, Back of The Mall, Masjid Raya, Port A. Yani, Sulamadaha, Swering / Falajawa, Talaganita, Tanjung Konde, and Tanjung Cobo.
Diving Season: May – October
As we all know that the west wind blows between September and March, peaks in December and January. The characteristics of the west wind are bringing rain and strong wind. This causes high waves in Indonesia seas, in December and January. In this condition, dive sites which are located on the west coast affected directly by the west wind. The waves will usually rise, and the water becomes muddy. Usually, the diving conditions become tough. However, there are also areas that can be dived only at the west wind, generally located on the east coast of the island. So, diving in December and January is not a problem, as long as we can choose the right spot in certain weather. For example: in Ternate, in case of waves or wind on the south side, we can still dive on the north side of the island so we are safe from waves or wind, and vice versa.
The clarity of the water around Ternate Island and the surrounding area can reach 20-40 meters of viewing distance, or until 10-25 meters.
