Kakara Island is the main attraction in Tobelo Islands. Kakara Island is located in Tobelo region, North Halmahera, North Maluku province. White sandy beaches, crystal-clear sea water and beaches area shaded by leafy trees make Kakara Island as a popular tourist destination which frequently visited by foreign tourists. In the weekend, many local tourists come here to swim.
Kakara island is the origin of Hibualamo culture. If you are history tour lovers, you need to visit this island to see the initial construction of Hibualamo traditional house which is the unifying symbol of North Halmahera people. Kakara residents itself is very well known as skilled Cakalele dancers. Kakara people also provides guesthouses if you want to stay on Kakara Island, they will also prepare some typical food for you.
For snorkeling and diving, the waters around the cape on the east of Kakara is a recommended point. At the time of low tide, you will even see the beautiful coral reefs from the surface. Kakara Island is one of the cluster of islands in front of Tobelo City which can be reached about 15 minutes by long-tail boat (ketinting) which you can find at Dufa-Dufa Harbour, with route Tobelo - Kakara and return. If you intend to explore the surrounding islands, the best way is to rent a long-tail boat with a capacity of 6 people or a speedboat.
