Festival Teluk Jailolo - Wisata Halmahera Barat

Festival Teluk Jailolo (FTJ) is an annual event which is consistently held by the Government of West Halmahera, North Maluku province to promote their regency as a featured destination in Eastern Indonesia,. This festival emphasizes the natural beauty, culinary variety, underwater potential, traditions and cultural diversity in West Halmahera.

The series of events in FTJ 2015 are as follows:


• Sigofi Ngolo
This is a ceremony of cleaning the sea which is very sacred and unique. This traditional ceremony is performed by circling Babua Island three times with a convoy of decorated boats accompanied by traditional musics and prayer led by the Sultan of Jailolo. In addition to clean the sea from bad intentions, Sigofi Ngolo is also as a tribute to the ancestors and a symbol to ask permission to nature to start the festival sincerely.

• Orom Sasadu
Orom Sasadu (traditional dining) is held as a gratitute from farmers to God of the abundant harvests. Orom Sasadu is held every year after the harvest. This event may last up to 9 days and 9 nights, 7 days and 7 nights, 5 days and 5 nights, 3 days and 3 nights, or even a day a night, depending on the harvest they get. The uniqueness of Orom Sasadu are that during the party they never sleepy though they do not sleep, never full though they eat continuously and never get drunk though they drink alcohols.

During the event, some instruments like tifa, gong and kenong will be played all night long to enliven the party. Besides, there are also some traditional dances, such as Sara Dabi-dabi and Legu Salai. Not to forget, the traditional food and beverages of West Halmahera such as nasi cala/nasi kembar and Saguer.

• Art Performances
The top performance of Festival Teluk Jailolo is the art performances where typical songs and dances of West Halmahera is packaged in an interesting story about the beauty of nature, land and sea which rich of the guidelines of life, philosophy and value of life. All  is displayed in a big stage above the sea in form of Sasadu, which is a traditional house of Sahu Tribe in West Halmahera.

• Culinary Event of West Halmahera Specialties
This is the event which visitors always wait for in this festival. Visitors can taste many typical foods of West Halmahera, such as pisang mulu bebe, papeda, nasi kembar, and so on. 

• Stalls
Around the stage of the festival, there are several stalls such as Batu Akik (gemstones), exhibition of Investation including mining and energy, tourism, forestry, plantation, agriculture, fishery and maritime.
