Diving Spots - West Halmahera Marine Attraction

West Halmahera is famous for the beauty of the sea, which is located in North Maluku province. There are several well-known diving spots, among others: Cape Kailupa block, Babua Island block, Atoll Pastofiri block, and Loloda.

CAPE KAILUPA BLOCK

NHR.10

The spot is located in the west of the bay and has a topography of coral wall and slope reef which is overgrown by gorgonians, sea fans, sponges and arcopora. NHR 10 is suitable to for wide angle and macro camera. Marine life: shark, turtle, cuttlefish, anthias glass fish, octopus, and so on.

NHR.08

With the combination topography of slope and wall, this diving spot has a beautiful variety of hard and soft coral with an average depth of 15 meters to 25 meters. The entry is located on the left of the reef. Marine life: shark, jackfish, nudi branches, surgeon fish, glass fish, garden feel, and so on.

RED HOUSE

Because of the flat and deep slope topography with slightly muddy substrate, this spot has plenty of sea fans and barrel sponges with an average depth of 15 meters to 30 meters. Marine life: nudi branches, glass fish, pigmy seahorse, pink eyed goby, crocodile fish, ribbon eel, and so on.

BABUA ISLAND BLOCK

NHR.06 [REEF JOJO]

The dive profile can be changed according to the direction of flow, reef top 5 meters. The submerged reef has average depth of 15 meters to 25 meters. NHR 06 has soft corals, sea fan, gorgonian, barrels sponge, and it is suitable for wide angle or macro camera. Marine life: shark, turtle, anthias, nudi branches, fusilier glass fish, moray eel, pink eyed goby, and so on.

NHR.02

This diving spot is located on the north side of Babua Island. The dive entry is where the coral position on the left hand. This dive site has a topography of coral wall and slope with depths ranging from 15 meters to 25 meters. This dive site is very suitable for a wide angle lens. Marine life: soft coral, sea fan, turtle, fusilier, snapper, white tip shark.

MATUI

This diving spot is located in Matui Village. The dive entry is where the coral position on the left hand. This dive site has a combination of gentle slope, wall, and spot coral topography ranging from a depth of 15 meters to 25 meters. This site is suitable for macro camera. Marine life: electric clam, lembeh seadragon, pink eyed goby, bearded goby, nudibranch, etc.

ATOLL PASTOFIRI BLOCK

PASTOFIRI POINT

This spot is located on the inner side (east side) of atoll. The dive entry is where the coral on the left, can be entered by beach entry or boat entry. The dive site has a topography of slope and mini wall, and very suitable for wide angle lens or macro photography. The average depths is ranging from 15 meters to 30 meters. Marine life: sea fan, nudi branches, bubble coral, orang utan crab, fusilier fish, white tip shark, soft corals, pink eyed goby, mushroom coral pipefish, and so on.

BATU KAKA

This site is marked by a huge rock which rises near Guaeria Village. With the entry where the reef on the left, it has a dive site topography in a combination of slope and meander wall with an average depth of 15 meters to 25 meters. With many soft corals and hard coral, this spot is very suitable for wide and macro lens. Marine life: shark, nudi branches, scorpion fish, glass fish, blue ribbon eel.

CAPE MATUI

With quite good visibility, this spot is dominated by a topography of deep slope and wall as well as excellent coral reefs cover. The fish in this spot is varied and suitable for wide and macro photography. Marine life: denise pigmy seahorse, pink eyed goby, schooling baracudda, and so on.

In addition, there are also many diving spots in Loloda, namely: Sosota Reef, Sunset, Panic Point, Kampung Kahatola, Long Rock, Echa's Garden, Paniki, Rodeo Rock, Marble Reef, and Irama Rock. 

There is a diving center in West Halmahera which can  be found in Jailolo Harbour, known as "Gilolo" Diving Center. They will take you to the best diving spots.
